Annette Ferrer is an associate attorney in our worker’s compensation department. She is located in our Miami office and handles worker’s compensation matters throughout the state of Florida. She focuses her practice on the defense of self-insured employers providing assistance in all aspects of litigation. She utilizes her attention to detail, legal research, and writing skills to advocate for her clients.

Background

Annette earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2018. While in law school she was the Latino Law Student Association Secretary and a member of the Cuban American Bar Association. She was a Certified Legal Intern at The Virgil Hawkins Family Advocacy Clinic where she represented pro-bono clients in dissolution of marriage and paternity cases. She participated in an externship with the Office of the General Counsel for the Department of Children and Families drafting petitions and orders for placement of vulnerable adults in need of Adult Protective services. She was also awarded the Outstanding Pro Bono Certificate for completing over 150 hours of pro bono service.

In 2015, Annette graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Business Administration. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, Navigators International, and The Heavener School of Business International Programs Student Ambassadors.

She was born and raised in Miami, FL and enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.

Experience

Prior to joining Almazan Law, Annette was an Assistant State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando, FL for two and half years. She prosecuted misdemeanor, traffic, juvenile, and felony cases. She worked with local law enforcement, witnesses, and victims to investigate cases. She was first chair in seven jury trials and three non-jury trials. She utilizes her litigation experience in defense of Employer/Carrier’s during depositions, motion hearings, pre-trial conferences, and final merit hearings.

Annette completed the Florida Bar Worker’s Compensation Trial Advocacy Program, where she collaborated with attorneys and judges to present a mock trial. She was accepted into this limited program where she had the opportunity to learn from seasoned experts in worker’s compensation. The mock trial involved issues of fraud, applicability of the Daubert Standard, major contributing cause, and the exclusion of evidence.
