Johanna Castellon Vega is a Partner and leads the Litigation Department of Almazan Law. Her practice includes all phases of Federal and State Civil Litigation including real estate and commercial litigation, general liability defense including premises liability, auto negligence, products liability, and employment and labor law defense. Johanna has successfully tried a variety of defense matters on liability and commercial litigation matters to verdict during her career.

Academic & Personal Background

Johanna received her Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law in 2007.  While in law school she was a member of the Mock Trial Team where she was a finalist in the 2006 Honorable E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition, she advocated in the 2007 Tournament of Champions Mock Trial Competition, and she was a winner of the 2007 Chester Bedell Memorial Mock Trial Competition.  In addition, Johanna was the Hispanic Bar Association Treasurer, she was a University Ambassador, and a Committee Chair for the 2007 Class Gift.  She received a B.S. in Special Education, an M.S. in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages from Florida International University, and she worked for 2 years at Ruth Owens Kruse Education Center with special needs students prior to attending law school.

Johanna has volunteered with Special Olympics at various bowling events, she has volunteered at various hurricane relief projects with the Red Cross, and currently volunteers at numerous fundraising events at her local parish.  She and her husband, Manny, have a young daughter and enjoy traveling and doing outdoor activities.

Experience

Johanna began her legal career by completing internships with the Pinellas County Public Defender’s Office, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, and a judicial internship with Judge Jack Day.  After attending Stetson University College of Law, Johanna defended indigent clients at the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office in the Early Representation Unit.  For the last 10 years Johanna has represented various institutional lenders in commercial foreclosures, restructuring non-performing loans, and she has handled numerous loan sale transactions.  She has also handled numerous complex commercial disputes and handles a variety of general liability insurance defense matters for large corporate and restaurant clients throughout the state in both state and federal court.
